Our picture frames received a clear coat- giving a fabulous finishing touch to last week’s creations. Today Black Bat artists drew imagery representing something special to each individual; whether people, places, activities, experiences… These very special artworks will fill the spaces in our frames!
Black Bats continue to explore ‘Shape’ in art! Today we read ‘I Spy Shapes in Art’ by Lucy Micklethwait. This book presents children with fourteen famous paintings- on each page we are encouraged to ‘spy’ a different shape in the painting. After this fun initial investigation we challenged ourselves to discover more shapes in each work. This picture book pairs a classic game with timeless art, making it the perfect way to introduce fine art to children. Each individual started a drawing of his/her choice keeping in mind to include a specific shape somewhere in the image that the rest of the class will have the opportunity to ‘spy’.
These creative artists completed their ‘I Spy’ artworks today and each student presented his/her artwork to the class. We enjoyed finding various hidden shapes in each work.
Today Black Bats outlined a variety of geometric shapes, cut these out, and began to create ‘shape puppets’; using the cut outs to construct the body, arms, legs, head, and other details of their puppets.
