March

March 7, 2014

Bat artists completed the Paul Klee continuous line study today. These colorful artworks depict semi-representational human figures, the continuous lines produced many interesting shapes too. Our industrious group completed a second project today- oil pastel scratch art! Students colored white mat board pieces with thick layers of vibrant oil pastels, building up layers by overlapping different colors. Then, taking wooden scratch art tools, we drew all kinds of lines- continuous, curvilinear, zig zag… and remarked also on the interesting texture scratching into the pastel created.

Today in art Bat artists experienced the process of creating 3-dimensional form through paper mache. Each student began with a large bowl flipped upside down, and with paper mache paste and cut paper strips, learned how to apply paste and place individual mache pieces in overlapping, crisscrossing arrangements to ensure a stronger finished piece. We are excited to remove the dried mache from the bowls next week!

How interesting to remove dried paper mache forms from the large bowls today! Bats enjoyed painting the inner and outer surface of their bowls with bright spring like colors. We reviewed differences between 2 and 3 dimensional, and discussed form as an element of art.
