We really enjoy the small group time of centers, as it targets the exact area of instruction for groups with similar abilities. In the usual format, there are two independent stations, which require kids to focus on applying their knowledge of literacy or math skills independently. The third station is formatted around direct instruction from the teacher in literacy or mathematics awareness.

1.Build a picture with shapes: Students blindly choose 3 shapes from a basket. Their next task is to create something exciting with these random shapes. Watching what comes out of it is amazing!

2. Geo block design and recording inventory. This station allows kids to work from templates to familiarize themselves with the different shapes. Once they design is complete, they record some data. How what block did you use the most of? And other questions of the like.

3.Teacher station: This week, we finished the sight work activity packet to work with a certain group of sight words: see, look, my, at, the. It involves cutting, gluing and building sentences.

1.Ziploc Baggie Subtraction: An independent, hands-on way to make subtraction so obvious to the students. Each student has whiteboard materials and a large ziploc with the "slider" across the top. A number line 0-12 has been added in marker. Kids have math problems on index cards to complete. For instance: 6-3=. The student places the "slider" at 6 and pushes it down the number line 3 times, ending at 3.

2. Geometric Block grab and go: Students work independently as they sort, count and tally and graph a bag full of geometric shapes.

3.Teacher station: The teacher helps facilitate as the students work their way through a fun packet with various activities to get students very familiar with sight words.

In the usual format, there are two independent stations, which require kids to focus on applying their knowledge of literacy or math skills independently. The third station is formatted around direct instruction from the teacher in literacy or mathematic awareness.

1.Ziploc Baggie Addition: An independent, hands-on way to make addition so obvious to the students. Each student has whiteboard materials and a large ziploc with the "slider" across the top. A number line 0-12 has been added in marker. Kids have math problems on index cards to complete. For instance: 3+6=. The student places the "slider" at 3 and pushes it up the number line 6 times, ending at 9.

2. 100s chart: Each student is responsible to complete a 100's chart (with a guide) For various levels, some charts are totally blank, and other have some numbers already printed for more guidance.

3.Teacher station: Teacher is running the "store" and there are lots of items with price tags attached.  Kids use the "bank" of coins to get the correct amount to purchase their items. As they come to buy, the teacher shows them another combination of coins to make the same amount.
