Educational Plan

Objectives
To introduce my students to and give a better understanding of:
  • The causes of western settlement
  • Cattle drives
  • The history and importance of rodeo
  • Present day ranches
  • Important personalities of the west
Presentation
In order to meet my objective, I will teach this unit to my students in the span of a week, and I will carry this theme across my curriculum. I will use videos, books, guest speakers, field trips, and my personal research to teach this unit.

My Goal
By the end of this unit, I would like my students to be able to identify the causes of western settlement, be familiar with the concept of cattle drives, know the history and importance of rodeos then and now, and be able to recognize important historical figures of that time.
