As part of my teacher education at Chandler-Gilbert, I had the opportunity to take Theory of Elementary Math I and II. These classes placed a strong emphasis on allowing children to discover math concepts on their own, through the use of various manipulatives and interactive activities. It also taught me that there is always more than one way to teach math concepts. It was a fascinating course that taught me math methods I had never heard of before. I plan to teach these methods to my students so that they can always choose a method that works best for them.
