In the future, I will keep my data clear for parents and students. It amazed me how much different the students acted after seeing their grades, whether they had gains or losses. It was nice, at the parent teacher conferences, to be able to show the parents how we were using the proficiency model along with percentages. It would have been difficult to explain if I hadn't had the class data in front of me. There is an online access to grades for parents and students at all times. At McKay, they are very helpful with this as well. A lot of teachers post grades, but I think I'd like to show students their grades individually so that I can show them why they have the grade they have and how they can improve or keep it up. I want reaching their goals in my class to be as clear as possible. I think it's also important to keep up your data. Trying to stay on top of grading and entering data is important if you want to help your students grow. Besides, if you or they don't know how they did on the previous assignment, how will they know what to do differently or the same with the next. I understand how this can be difficult--teachers a busy--but in the long run it is helpful and saves time.
