Greetings! My name is Neil Corriston and I am Professional School Counselor at Center Senior High School for students with last names K-Z. I've been connected to the Center School District in some capacity for most my life. I was 13 year student here and graduated in 2000. I received my B.A in Psychology from the University of Missouri Columbia in 2004 and my M.A in Counseling and Educational Psychology from the University of Missouri Kansas City in 2012. I'm excited for the opportunity to work with some of the best kids in the city and some of the best educators in the state.
I believe that we have control over one thing in our lives: how we react to others, and while our past experiences are significant guiding force in our life they can do little to help in the here and now in life. What we choose today will dictate our tomorrow. I believe it is good practice to take a holistic view of who a person really is and understand that we as people phenomenologically create the meaning in our lives. It is in trying to understand what is important to the individual, and thereby helping them truly grasp what is meaningful; that a counselor’s work is fulfilled. I look forward to working with students, parents, staff and community to build a supportive and safe environment for student achievement.
