I am currently working at Northwestern Memorial Hospital as an Anesthesia Technician. NMH is ranked as the number one hospital in Illinois and sixth best hospital in the nation. It is centrally located in downtown Chicago and is the primary teaching hospital for Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. It is known for being the fifth tallest hospital in the world and employs over 1,600 physicians. NMH is a level one-trauma center that allows it to provide comprehensive emergency medical services.
As a technician, I provide perioperative technical support to members of the anesthesia team in relation to all anesthesia procedures. I prepare and maintain all anesthesia related tools and supplies i.e. gas cylinders, intubation equipment, fiberoptics, breathing circuits, blood warmers, etc. I report all equipment malfunctions to proper personnel. I disinfect and sterilize anesthesia equipment following proper procedure. I maintain appropriate inventory levels of supplies and equipment related to anesthesia care; and order supplies as necessary. I assist with movement of equipment and supplies to support room turnover and readiness. I also provide aid in the transportation of patients to and from procedure rooms. I provide assistance to the anesthesia team in the occurrence of any relevant issues.
