The Presidential Scholarship is a four-year half-tuition scholarship. It is awarded to one candidate from each Jesuit high school in the nation. I was fortunate enough to receive such scholarship due to my academically qualifying information provided in the admission application process, without regard to financial need. That being said, I would have never been able to attend Loyola University Chicago without it.
I wanted to go to Loyola more than anything. The only thing that prevented me was the price. I remember the day I found out that I received the scholarship. The president of my high school, Fr. Joaquin Martinez, S.J., pulled me into his office. He asked me how the college process was coming along. I told him that it was okay, but I still have not made a decision. He then looked at me and handed me a piece of paper. I grabbed it and saw that it said Loyola University Chicago across the top. I then looked up at him as he said, “congratulations”. That very moment I knew I was going to Chicago. This scholarship literally changed my life and I am blessed to have received it. I knew that grades were always important. I have always been proud of my leadership in the classroom. I knew that hard work and sacrifice would eventually pay off.
