Students have a handmade flip book called "Events Leading Up to the Civil War".  Students are to take 7-10 notes on the following 7 topics:

1. Missouri Compromise 1819, 2. Compromise of 1850 (Underground Railroad),  3. Kansas Nebraska Act 1854 (Bleeding Kansas), 4. Dred Scott Case 1857, 5. Raid on Harper's Ferry, VA 1859, 6.Presidential Elections of 1860 /Seccession/ States' Rights, 7. Fort Sumter 1861

Students' job is to discover what happened and how it added to the tension between the Northern and Southern states. All information is available in the American Journey textbook or the CD Rom which includes the student textbook.  Students are to sign out a CD Rom disk to burn and use the burned disk at home. Return the borrowed disk to me.  Textbooks are limited and only in cases where computer access is not possible will books be allowed for check out.

Manage your time well.  If students do one topic an evening, they should be done with this assignment by October 16.
