Your job is to rephrase one portion of the Declaration of Independence so that an average third grader would understand it. You are to include a drawing that helps explain the excerpt. Be sure to include a border and a colored background. You will then join a team so that you and your teammates will create a finished Declaration of Independence written for kids.
You have been given three handouts. The first, is the directions for the assignment and is attached here. The other two you can only get from the classroom. One is the excerpt sheet where you are to write your rephrased portion and add the other seven excerpts. The last handout is a glossary to help you with the difficult words found in the Declaration of Independence.
Once you are finished with your excerpt and drawing, you will be adding the remaining notes for the rest of the "Excerpts" on the handout. You will be meeting with your assigned team put together a completed Declaration of Independence.
BRING TO CLASS BY TUESDAY, OCTOBER 26: Final copy is on paper given in class. It is laid out in landscape format. Grading will be on: A. Writing, it is simple and clear (so a 3rd grader can understand it). Spelling and grammar, and punctuation are correct. All writing is either in ink or typed. B. Drawing connects with your assigned excerpt, it is neat and clean, and it shows you took your time, effort and care. Drawing is colorful. C. Border is colorful or has a pattern that supports the Declaration of Independence. Please put your name and period in the border along the bottom right hand corner.
