Context:
This Reading Log was created on Sunday, February 17, 2008. I have become familiar with the purpose of a Reading Log throughout my numerous internships and Student Teaching. Hence, I have created my very own Reading Log to use in my upcoming classroom.
Impact:
One of my many goals as a future teacher is to ensure that my students will not only foster in reading in school, but they will also grow as a reader at home. I have created a reading log that I plan to use. The reading log allows students to record the books they have read, the number of pages they have read, and the amount of time it took for them to read their book. In addition, I encourage family members to participate in this log by signing their signature. I hope that by having a reading log, I am able to connect my students with their families. Moreover, reading logs will allow me to better understand my student's reading interests.
Alignment:
This Reading Log helped me to meet the following North Carolina Department of Instruction Standards and Indicators for teachers:
Standard 1: Elementary teachers have a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in English Language Arts and Literacy.
Indicator 6 - Teachers understand the importance of literacy for personal and social growth.
--This artifact shows that I understand the importance of literacy for personal and social growth. Students will grow in literacy both personally and socially through the use of a Reading Log.
Standard 8: Teachers design instructional programs and strategies that build on students' experiences and existing language skills to help students become competent, effective users of language.
Indicator 4 - Teachers encourage students' enjoyment of reading.
--This artifact proves this I encourage students' enjoyment of reading. With this Reading Log, I allow students to have free choice of what they wish to read. When doing this, I am encouraging my students to enjoy reading.
