Content:

This morning work activity was created during Spring of 2008. This is a document that I created during my own time. In other words, this was not an assignment from an university professor or advisor. I created this assignment to help me meet NC Standards for Elementary teachers.

Impact:

I believe that this document would be useful as a morning work activity. A lot of times, art is left out of the classroom. This document allows the students to explore Vincent van Gogh's unique painting, A Starry Night. I think that this would be a great way to integrate art in my classroom. If occasionally, I use similar assignments just as this, I believe that I would find my students becoming more familiar with exemplary arts and the terms that corresponds with each piece.

Alignment:

This morning work art-activity helps me meet the following NC Standards for Elementary Teachers:

Standard 6: Elementary teachers have an understanding of the basic concepts in art.

Indicator 1 - Teachers understand the basic vocabularies, materials, techniques, and thinking processes of each arts discipline.

-- In the attached document, one will find a box that includes the different elements of art. These are beneficial terms that students should use when describing an art piece. This document proves that I understand the basic vocabulary terms for art.

Indicator 2 - Teachers have an informed acquaintance with exemplary works of art from a variety of cultures and historical periods.

-- This artifact proves that I have chosen an exemplary work of art: Vincent van Gogh's Starry Night. This painting was created near a mental asylum in Saint-Remy (France).
