Week by Week Essentials

I have found, researched, and reflected the resource, Week by Week Essentials, under the advisement of Betty Dishman, in the Fall of 2007.

Impact:

Week by Week Essentials can be incorporated during morning work or math centers to help students recall mathematical concepts that they have previously learned. I believe that it is important for students to participate in activities provided by Week by Week Essentials to ensure that they will not lose any valuable information that they have learned. Week by Week Essentials can also be useful to use as an assessment. The results of this assessment would help me recognize my students strengths and weaknesses in math.

Week by Week Essentials for all elementary school grades can be found on the North Carolina Department of Instruction web site.

This artifact helps me meet the following NC Standards for Elementary Teachers:

Standard 2: Elementary Teachers have a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in mathematics.

Indicator 1 - Teachers have knowledge of number sense, numeration, numerical operation.

    --I use number sense, numeration, and numerical operation by having my students complete a handout from Week by Week Essentials. This resource as noted in my reflection, can be used during math centers. Week by Week Essentials enforces students to use what they have previously learned about number sense, numeration, and numerical operation.

Indicator 3 - Teachers have knowledge of patterns, relationships, functions, symbols, and models.

    --Week by Week Essentials and the problems it provides always help students with patterns, relationships, functions, symbols, and models. My awareness of Week by Week Essentials and how I use it in centers will help my students gain more knowledge about about these essential mathematical concepts.
