This "Small Group Lesson" assignment was created for CI3030, Ivestigating Mathematics and Learning, Spring 2007. It was made under the advisement of this course's instructor, Tracie Salinas.
Impact:
In this assignment, I completed a math activity that was used with six first-grade students at Moravian Falls Elementary School. This activity help students practice their addition with using number zero through ten. This lesson was entitled, "Boxed Beanbag Addition" and can be found attached.
Alignment:
This newsletter met the following North Carolina Standards for Elementary School Teachers:
Standard 16 Indicator 3: Teachers communicate with parents, gaurdians, and caretakers to build partnerships between home and school.
--This artifact shows how I have builded a partnership between home and school. I have communicated effectively with the parents, guardians, and caretakers by using a newsletter. I feel that a newsletter can truly bring a community together. Parents, guardians, and caretakers can now become aware of the teacher's life. If the newsletter continues on a monthly or weekly basis, parents, guardians, and caretakers can also become more familiar with the types of objectives that are being taught in the classroom. Furthermore, parents, guardians, and caretakers can also read about their child's impact within the classroom. For example, teachers could display or talk about what types of projects that they are currently completing.
Standard V. C - Apply technology to increase productivity.
--This activity shows how using technology has made my job easier. By sending home a newsletter, students and parents will get to know me on a different level. This is an easier way than inviting parents and students into the classroom. A lot of times parents are unable to make a frequent appearance in the classroom. By having a newsletter, I have provided an easy way for teachers to get to know me and what is happening in the classroom without having to take further action.
Standard V. D - Use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture learning.
--This artifact shows how I have used technology to communicate with other members in the community. I have communicated with the students and parents when I will be available in the classroom, where I came from, why I am in the classroom, what I like to do, and what my childhood was like. This is an effective way to communicate through technology.
