Hello class! Today, in lieu of the lack of available funds, we will be taking a Virtual Field Trip to France, circa 768 AD to witness the rise of Charles the Great, AKA Charlemagne! We will begin by taking part in the battle of Pavia, where Charlemagne gained dominion over Italy. After that we shall follow Charlemagne's life both before and after this event, from his childhood under his father Pepin the Short, to the crowning of his son Louis the Pious. This will include videos of Charlemagne's life, a slideshow of objects and people who lived in the same era as the Holy Roman Emperor, and we will ultimately discover how Europe went from a land ruled by barbarous tribes and on the brink of invasion from the might of Islam to a structured land recovered from centuries of war and desolation. Each student will receive a worksheet and small stamp book. The worksheet will contain questions based on information from every station, and it is your duty to fill the worksheet out before the end of the field trip, as well as get every portion of the stamp book stamped out.
