Lesson
The teacher will ask the students to recall the definition of a noun. The teacher will remind the students that identifying the noun in a sentence allows us to picture in our minds, the person, place, or thing we are talking about. The teacher will tell the students that we will be identifying the action of in many sentences.
The teacher will model a sentence on the smartboard and ask the students to identify the noun. Then, the teacher will act out the sentence. The teacher will ask the students what the noun is doing. Once the students identify what the noun is doing, the teacher will explain that it is the action word of the sentence.
Then, the teacher will model another sentence and ask the students to identify the noun and find one word that describes the action. After a few more examples, the teacher will ask the students if they know what the action word is called. The teacher will introduce and define the word verb.
The teacher will show 5 sentence examples on the smarboard and ask for the students to work in teams to identify the verb. The teacher will ask one team at a time to volunteer their answer at the smartboard. During teamwork, the teacher will suggest that the students picture the sentences in their minds to visually see and identify the action verb.
The teacher will then explain the independent practice. The students will be asked to identify and write four different verbs on the given craft paper. Once the verb is written, the teacher will ask the students to draw a picture of the action. The teacher will model the example.
If time allows or for early finishers, the teacher will ask the students to work on workbook page 28 where they will write sentences and circle each verb.
