Welcome to Introduction to 3-D Art!
Course Description:
This course will introduce student to 3-D art design, creation and evaluation. It will focus on exploring the realm of clay and its many exciting and creative possibilities. In this course you will be trained to think and express yourselves as artists using ceramics as your primary medium along with plaster, wood and metal. This class emphasizes the production of well-designed, well crafted, original sculpture. It will provide you with basic working knowledge of clay techniques, including ceramic construction, glazing and firing along with metal, wood, plaster, paper and wire. To support your growth as artists we will also go beyond technique by looking at the history of ceramics, theories behind 3-D design and where artists get ideas from which to create. By the end of this course I hope you will be proud as you look back at how far you have grow as an artist and in your abilities to express yourself through ceramics and sculpture.
General Course Objectives
By the end of this course you will be able to recognize, understand and utilize the following basic concepts of ceramics and artistic practices:
1) Ceramic creation techniques (slab, coil and hand-building, glazing, surface finishes, firing ect.)
2) Multi-Medium construction techniques (including plaster, metal, wood, paper, wire)
3) Ceramic tools and studio equipment (recycling clay, kilns, ribs, needle point tools ect.)
4) Understand the importance of practicing safety in the studio
5) Learn how to run a functioning studio and take pride and ownership of it
6) Understand and reflect upon the “Ways of Creation” through looking at and making art
7) Research, investigate and evaluate ceramics in the contemporary art world
8) Research, investigate and evaluate ceramics and pottery from and historical and multi-cultural stance
9) Produce work with aesthetic value and content
10) Grow in your abilities to make artistic and creative decisions which are expressed through your work
11) Grow into a supportive community of artists
12) Analyze and evaluate the others works using the language of art (Principles and Elements of Design)
13) Create and evaluate your own works of art using the language of art (Principles and Elements of Design)
