Course Description

This course is the next step for student to 3-D art design, creation and evaluation. It will focus on taking the mediums and techniques that students have learned in past classes (clay,wood, metal, plaster, wax and other materials) and using them to develop a sense of personal artistic voice. There will be on large scale projects such as community and instillation art which will require long term planning and working in the Tucson community. Students will also create a personal series where they select the focus. In this course you will continue to train you ability to think and express yourselves as artists This class emphasizes the production of well-designed, well crafted, original sculpture. To support your growth as artists we will also go beyond technique by looking at the history, theories behind 3-D design and where artists get ideas from which to create. By the end of this course I hope you will be proud as you look back at how far you have grow as an artist and in your abilities to express yourself through ceramics and sculpture.

 

General Course Objectives

By the end of this course you will be able to recognize, understand and utilize the following intermediate concepts of sculpture and artistic practices:

1) Ceramic creation techniques and tool

2) Multi-Medium construction techniques (including plaster, metal, wood, paper, wire)

3) Large scale planning for the Instillation/ multi-modal art and community art

4) Understand the importance of practicing safety in the studio

5) Learn how to run a functioning studio and take pride and ownership of it

6) Define your artistic voice and decide on your own “Ways of Creation” through looking at & making art for your personal series

7) Research, investigate and evaluate sculpture in the contemporary art world

8) Research, investigate and evaluate sculpture from and historical and multi-cultural stance

9) Produce work with aesthetic value and content

10) Grow in your abilities to make artistic and creative decisions which are expressed through your work

11) Grow into a supportive community of artists and branch out to the larger Tucson community

12) Analyze and evaluate the others works using the language of art (Principles and Elements of Design)

13) Create and evaluate your own works of art using the language of art (Principles and Elements of Design)

AND OF COURSE- HAVE FUN WHILE DOING IT!
