Rationale for Multi-Text Study
Context
I completed this Multi-Text assignment by using the novel Bud, Not Buddy By Christopher Paul Curtis during Block II in the spring semester of 2006 at Appalachian State University. This assignment was completed for Dr. Robin Groce's RE 4030, Development of Literacy class. I chose this novel because it won a Newberry Medal and I thought it would be a fun way for my students to learn about the Great Depression. Students will be able to relate to this novel, because the main character in the story is also 10 years old.
Impact
This Multi-text study will help students learn about a very significant event in our nation's history. It will assist students in learning about plot, theme, setting, conflict, and characterization. To complete this assignment I came up with 5 activities on these elements of a story. While completing this assignment, I personally became more knowledgeable about the Great Depression. As, teachers we are constantly learning along with our students.
