Rationale for NETS-T for iMovie Activity
Content:
In my media and technology class during block II, my classmates and I created an iMovie. My group chose the book Alice the Fairy by David Shannon. We used digital video cameras to record a dramatized version of this book. We also used the iMac program to import and edit the iMovie and the audio recording equipment to add voiceovers and music. Then we burned the iMovie on a DVD and showed it to the class.
Impact:
When I teach I can use this activity to integrate technology and literature. The students can use digital video cameras to make their own iMovie. I can have them pick their own children’s literature book to dramatize, I can use my video as an example for the class, or I could video tape my students and show it to the parents.
Alignment:
I have met NET-S standard Ib by allowing my students to use up to date, state of the art technology and computer programs as part of my classroom learning environment.
I have met NET-S standard Id because I have learned to manage a digital camera and video production equipment. While completing this project, I have learned how to use a digital camera, tripod, and I also learned how to take care of a digital video camera tape. When teaching, I will be able to accurately demonstrate this to my students.
I have met NET-S standards VI b by allowing all students in the class the opportunity to participate in the iMovie activity which is a hands on task. This hands on task will appeal to diverse learners. When creating an iMovie students use a variety of senses such as touch, sound, and sight. This is very engaging and interactive for students, keeping the attention of LD, ADHD, and learners of all levels. This technology, being a hands on activity, would also allow for a variety of students with learning or physical disabilities to be apart of the project.
I have met DPI standard 6, indicator 1 because we used drama and video arts (we acted out the book Alice the Fairy) in the creation of our iMovie. We also created props and a story board to help with the planning of the iMovie.
I have met DPI standard 12 because I learned how to intergrate technology by using computers and iMovie with the arts. These arts include graphic and visual arts of drama and video production.
