Context
This project was completed in Block II in my Science Methods class in the spring of 2006. This demonstration was performed in front of group of ESL students participating in the Curriculum and Instruction 2800 Fifth Dimension after school program. This program is held at Appalachian State University.
Impact
This demonstration engaged these students in critical thinking questions. This demonstration will help my students start to wonder about light refraction. This hands on activity will allow students to begin thinking about light in a new way. Most of the children did not know that a fishbowl can be used to magnify words. As a future teacher, this project has increased my knowledge of light refraction so that I can better teach my students.
Alignment
I met Standard 15 Indicator 1 by making real world connections with science. This also allowed all students to participate in the project because it was a small group demonstration.
