Context
During my student teaching in first grade at Pressly Elementary, I was required to integrate technology into my curriculum. Students were asked to place themselves in the middle bubble and their family members in the remaining bubbles. After students made a bubble map in class, they made bubble maps in the computer lab on the program Kidspiration. My class spent one day practicing using this program. The second day we printed their work and displayed them in the hall.
Impact
The students really got excited about using Kidspiration. They also love any activity where they are allowed to tell about their families. Learning to use this program went well because they had already had some practice with bubble maps. Next time I will spend more time letting students practice using this program so their maps will have more detail. When students can complete activities using different manipulatives in reinforces what you are trying to teach. I will definitely use bubble maps in the program Kidspiration in the future.
Alignment
I have met Standard 11, Indicator 5 by integrating technology into a social studies lesson using the program Kidspiration.
I have met NETS Standard III by using technology to reinforce a social studies lesson. My students love going to the computer lab. This assignment gave them a chance to express themselves through creating a map of their family. I also monitored students in the computer lab to make sure they were on task at all times.
