QIWK Assessment

Context:

This assignment was completed for my RE 3030-Foundations of Literacy class under the instruction of Dr. David Koppenhaver in block one, Spring 2007.  The QIWK assessment was administered at Mountain View Elementary in Morganton, NC in a fourth grade classroom. I used Microsoft Word to complete this assignment. I gave this assessment for evaluation of spelling development, reading performance and instructional levels.

Impact:

This assessment was used for the purpose of understanding the achievement of students in spelling and reading.  I was able to better understand the instructional level of the students I assessed so that I could better teach to their individual abilities.  This was an excellent way for me to assess my students as a whole class.

Alignment:

NCDPI Standard 1-Indicator 2: I met this standard by making sure I spoke clearly and that all students understood the word I was asking them to spell.  I made sure that everyone was hearing the same word.

NCDPI Standard 8-Indicator 2: I met this standard by assessing their spelling level and reading comprehension as it changes.

NCDPI Standard 8-Indicator 6: I met this standard by using standard English in the sentences I used to explain the meaning of the spelling words.
