Small Group Lesson

Small Group Lesson Rationale

Context:  This assignment was completed for my CI 3030 class Investigating Mathematics and Learning, under the instruction of Dr. Tracy Goodson-Espy in block one, Spring 2007.  The technologies used for this assignment were Microsoft Word and a scanner.

Impact:  The purpose of this assignment was that students understood the meaning of place value using a place value chart and M&M's.  This assignment was also intended for me to teach a small group math lesson and reflect on its results.

Alignment:

NCDPI Standard 2 indicator 1 by researching my lesson plan and its components on place value and the North Carolina Standard Course of Study Objectives it met.

NCDPI Standard 7:  I met this standard by finding a lesson plan appropriate for fourth grade and covering standards indicated for that grade.

NCDPI Standard 9 indicator 1  I met this standard by reviewing math concepts that link to place value before teaching my lesson. I investigated with my cooperating teaching what student had already learned prior to teaching this lesson.

NCDPI Standard 15:  I met this standard by working one on one with Hispanic students in my class and moving at a pace that was compatible for them.
