On my way to becoming a teacher, I have come across numerous websites relating to the field of education.  The links below have helped me learn more about teaching issues and understand different areas of education.  Many of these sites have activities for students, lessons plans, and other resources to use in the classroom.

Alfy.com

top_left.gif Alfy.com is full of a variety of resources for the classroom.  It has lesson ideas, brain teasers, activities that integrate technology, tools for communication, and professional growth information. 

AZ Department of Education

The Arizona Department of Education website has information regarding teacher certification, school rankings, standards, and many other readings related to education.

Brain Teasers

logo.gif Braingle.com includes many brain teasers, logic puzzles, and riddles.  These can increase creativity and boost learning in students.

Bridging the Gender Gap

This Gender Gap site discusses more about the issue of gender in the classroom.  It is important for teachers to understand gender roles and how to improve the situation in their classroom.

Cheating in the Classroom

Cheating in the Classroom article discusses what cheating is and how to prevent it from ocurring in the classroom.

Children's Websites and Activities

fgcolorsc.gif First Gov for Kids contains various websites and online activities children can use to enhance their learning.  Some of the categories include: history, space, music, safety, geography, money, health, and government.  This is a great resource for teachers to use for more ideas on how to present the curriculum.  This site also has a section on computers that has links detailing the importance of internet safety, how to build a web page, and how the internet works.

Closing the Achievement Gap

2141001collage.jpg The NCREL website has an entire section about the achievement gap.  It explains the problem, its causes, and possible actions needed to solve the problem.

Computer Resource

labbanner.gif Mrs. Cannon's Computer Lab has monthly computer learning activities for teachers.  Some activities will help students learn the parts of a computer and how to use it and its software properly.

Discipline Help

discipline.gif Disciplinehelp.com shows various misbehaviors, their effects, and the common mistakes made regarding them.  It also has a list of resources for extra information, such as books, CDs, or videos.

EdHelper.com

edhelp2.gif EdHelper.com is full of material for educators of all grade levels and subjects.  This site contains lesson plans, ideas for curriculum themes, and exciting prompts and quizzes to engage children in classroom activities.  This information assists a teacher in presenting new concepts and material in exciting ways.

Educational Links

fhed.jpg This educational site is divided by subjects.  A teacher can easily locate a specific area, such as math, biology, or computers, to find links to web sites that have lesson plans.  This site also lists the top sites for educators and Arizona's State Standards. 

Educator's Best Friend

h1_dec.jpg Educationworld.com is known as the educator's best friend.  It includes information about school issues, technology integration, lesson planning, and professional development.

Eduplace.com

The activity section at Eduplace.com is filled with lesson plans for all different types of subjects.  It is important that teachers are continuing to add to their lesson collection and that they fill their class time with exciting, but educational activities.

Encouraging Involvement

untitled.jpg The National Coalition for Parental Involvement in Education discusses how teachers can involve parents in education.  The stronger relationships that exist among home, school, and community will enhance the schooling experience of our children.</A>

Math for Everyone

Picture1.jpg This math site is excellent.  It is full of a web links to a variety of math games and activities.  It also has printable lesson plans, math challenges, and other resources.

Middle School Resources

Middleweb.com includes numerous resources and information for educators teaching at the middle school level.  Teachers can read articles, participated in discussion groups, and receive newsletters.

Multicultural Calendar

mcc-s.gif This calendar site is a valuable resource for teachers who want to teach their students about holidays from around the world.  It sorts the holidays by month and country to find the ones that work best for your classroom.  Each section explains the celebration and activities to do for that day.

National Statistics

top.jpg The National Center for Education Statistics has current articles and data relating to education.  It is full of charts, tables, studies, and many other resources to better show, not tell, how education is doing right now.

No Child Left Behind Act

Ed.gov website provides detailed information about the No Child Left Behind Act.  This law wants to eliminate the acheivement gap, stress accountability, ensure well-qualified teachers, and bring every child to competency in math, reading, and science.

PBS TeacherSource

PBS.org includes numerous current events, information on incorporating media into lessons, and a variety of lesson plans for specific subjects and grades.  This site encourages learning, but in enjoyable ways.

Resource for Handicapped Technology

tower-over.gif The UVM LIbrary presents information on how to set your computer specifically for your handicapped students, such as hearing, mobility, and visually impaired.  Each child deserves to have ease at using technology. 

Special Education Resources on the Internet

seriho2.jpg The website of SERI includes a variety of resources for parents and educators regarding special education.  There are different sections for specific disabilities.  This site also has current laws and books relating to the field of special education.  I especially enjoy the section that has lesson plans and websites for educational activity ideas.

This site includes a lessons section that gives activities to use in the classroom for all different subjects, such as computers, art, math, and social studies.  It also has links to other websites which have great ideas and materials.

Technology Resource

Mesa Public Schools created this website as a resource full of websites that will reinforce material while still teaching the state standards.  This site lists interactive activities for use within the classroom divided by grade level and into subject categories.
