Inspired Youth's Mission, Programs and Worldview

Organization Overview

Mission Statement

"Inspired Youth serves the academic needs of students in Chicago's Uptown, Edgewater, and Rogers Park neighborhoods. From its beginnings in 1985 as a small, church-sponsored tutoring program, Inspired Youth has grown into a full-fledged (c) (3)  not-for-profit corporation offering a variety of programs for those in elementary and high school. The tutoring program, with its emphasis on improving reading and writing skills, is the heart of what we do and has earned us recognition from numerous organizations, including the Chicago Bar Association" (inspiredyouthchicago.org).

Programs/Activities

Inspired Yoth offers 3 different programs: tutoring, Inspired Youth Singers, and a summer Piano Institute.

  • Tutoring: Students who are in 1st to 4th grade are tutored on Wedsnesdays and Thursdays from 3:00pm to 4:30pm. On Mondays, tutoring occurs from 6:30pm to 8:00pm for students 5th grade to high school. Students get assistance with their schoolwork and also help to improve their reading, and writing skills.
  • Inspired Youth Singers: Children from ages 5 to 17 years olds can participate in Inspired Youth's community choir. The choir performs around 12 times a year in various events such as: benefit concerts, retirement centers, Inspired Youth Family Nights and so much more! The choir offers a fun, interactive way for children to learn more about singing, while giving back to the community.
  • Piano Institute: Free, introductory piano lessons are offered to students during the summer. Not only are the lessons fun, but they also "build discipline, provides the children a means of self-expression, encourages creative thinking, and teaches problem-solving skills" (inspiredyouthchicago.org/piano.html).
