Senior Seminar

Writing Senior Seminars are small but intensive group studies of certain advanced topics within writing. Topics vary by semester. Seminar professors assign readings and writings related to the topic to be analyzed workshop-style during class.

For my Senior Seminar, I took First Person Narration. For the course we read a variety of nonfiction pieces that observed the use of narrative style in essays. During class, we discussed how each author constructed and then used their individual writing voice within the piece. As a capstone to this course, we wrote a single long-form essay about our own approach to writing in our narrative voice. This exercise made me re-examine my own understanding of and philosophies on writing, while helping me develop a consistent voice within a piece of nonfiction.
