  1. #9: Conflict Resolution and IEPs #9: Conflict Resolution and IEPs
Standard #9: This paper discusses the importance of resolving conflicts with regards to IEPs. Effective IEP meetings, as well as establishing positive parent relations are major steps in ensuring minimal disputes in the IEP process. If disagreements between parents and a school district should occur, it is imperative to explore both informal and formal resolution methods before due process. An educator’s role is to develop an environment that promotes the greatest success for students. In the IEP process, all parties must effectively work together in order to meet the unique needs of a student with a disability.
  2. Standard #9: Denial of FAPE Standard #9: Denial of FAPE
Standard #9: This paper discusses the ethical responsibility of case manager to ensure students receive a free and appropriate education. Students with a disability possess the right to be provided with a free and appropriate education. Often times, measuring the appropriateness of an education for a student can be difficult. It is imperative that school districts do everything within their power to provide students with a disability with a meaningful and beneficial education. In order to ensure FAPE, a well written IEP focusing on a student’s unique needs is required.
  3. Standard #9: Responsibilities of those Involved in the Education of Students with a Disability Standard #9: Responsibilities of those Involved in the Education of Students with a Disability
Standard #9: I wrote this research paper for a special education law course I took at GSC. This paper discusses the roles and responsibilities of those involved within the realm of special education. Many parts are involved in providing a successful education for students with disabilities. Legislation such as the IDEA provides all students with the ability to obtain a free and appropriate education. Decisions made by the district courts, as well as appeals courts, provide definitive interpretations of the legislation in the IDEA. Legislative, judicial and regulative bodies work together to define the rights of students with disabilities. It is upon those working within the field of education, as well as the student and his/her parents, to develop a beneficial education for a student with a disability. Educators must work together to uphold the integrity of all students. Parents and advocates must work to ensure that their student obtains an appropriate education. Communication and collaboration amongst educators, parents/advocate, and legislative bodies are essential in order to provide students with a disability an equitable and appropriate education.
  4. Standard #9: Special Education Law Briefs Standard #9: Special Education Law Briefs
Standard #9: I wrote these briefs for a special education law course I took at GSC. Studying these court cases that focused on implications within the rules and regulations of special education illustrated the importance of abiding to the ethical responsibilities of the special education teacher. Court case covered in these briefs include; Timothy W. v. Rochester School District, Lemon v. Kurtzman, Superintendent of Public Instruction of Pennsylvania, Nesho R-V School District v. Clark, and Brown v. Board of Education.
