A teacher’s role is extremely important in the classroom. As a future teacher, taking this cultural diversity course from Chandler/Gilbert Community College benefited me greatly and broadened my awareness of the many diverse cultures. I learned that the most important aspect, as a teacher, is to have high expectations for all students, as well as teaching and treating every student equally. There is no more powerful tool than knowledge, therefore, utilizing a variety of teaching strategies with benefit my classroom to the greatest. As a teacher, I will always be aware of the many diverse cultures. Ways to be aware can be through newspaper articles, videos, and guest speakers. I created a cultural calendar, showing many cultural holidays. One of the best ways to become aware of different cultures is to be around other cultures. I completed twenty hours of service learning in a high Hispanic school, an experience that gave me great insight into that culture. Education is a great equalizer and I learned that if I believe in my students, they will be able to strive to success in education.
