Janet Schwab
"There is no better way to learn than by teaching," and life has brought Mrs. Janet Schwab to teaching technology at Navarrete Elementary School. Through her media specialist postition in the library and lab, site support technician, and school webmaster, she still finds time to teach kindergarten through sixth grade technology. Each technology lesson is integrated with each grade's curriculum and covers three critical components of content, critical thinking, and computer skills. In Mrs. Schwab's class, she uses technology as a teaching tool, as well as a tool for producing work as an end product. Each lesson is guided, structured, as well as fully engaging and produces active participation in the students. Having the privilege of learnign technology and utilizing it as a learning tool at the elementary age, creates a natural learning process as well as student success by following directions, making decisions, and solving problems.
« In my classroom, I will incorporate and integrate technology as a teaching and learning tool as well as an instrument for producing the final product and enhancing an existing lesson.
« Technology can be used as a teaching tool and learning tool by using projects such as PowerPoint or the internet to assist in teaching and learning.
« As a teacher, I will provide my student with options for the final product of their projects, which could include PowerPoint, Publisher, a webpage, or an Excel spreadsheet or graph.
« In my classroom, I will recognize that teaching students with technology can improve student success. This can be accomplished from boosting the students’ self-esteem because of the individual interactive learning that can be brought by technology products.
« Technology can be utilized as a natural learning process by following directions, making decisions, sequencing, and solving problems.
