Professional Responsibilities for Self-Renewal
Overview
A Twenty first century teacher's responsibilty for self-renwal includes continually examining his or her practice in the context of a global, digital society. The teacher seeks professional support and engages in collaboaration with professional collegues to share ideas and critique practices. The teacher evaluates his/ own teaching and is willing to make adjustmets according to data analysis. The teacher seeks to work as a team and exhibit leadership in the learning community.
Dialogue Journal
Relevant Description
During each of my clinical placements, my host teacher and I kept a dialogue journal in which we discussed my observations and concerns about my experiences in the classroom. She also gave me extremely valuable feed back and suggestions for improvement in my teaching. Through these exchanges, I received much needed feed back and encouragement. The journal was as also an excellent opprotunity for self reflection. Simply taking the time to write down my observations, reflections, and ideas at the end of each school day was extremely helpful in seeing areas of needed improvement and establishing a positive professional relationship with my host teachers.
Plans for Improvement
I may not use a dialogue journal in future professional relationships, but I will continue to see my collegues as a valuable resource. I am aware that being able to take and give constructive criticism is a necessary skill for teachers as it allows for continual renewal and improvement of practice. One question I will have for any potential emloyers is if there are any teacher mentoring programs to take advantage of, and I will seek to become part of a community of teachers that learn as well as teach together.
