Class Webpage

Context

The "Classroom Webpage" assignment was completed in CI 3750: Integrating Media into Technology during the Spring Semester of 2007. The Classroom Webpage was completed under the advisement of Jeff Goodman. All of my photos were taken throughout my internship at Moravian Falls Elementary School in Mrs. Heather Quessenberry's Kindergarten Classroom with the parents' permission.

My "Classroom Webpage" is password protected, for the safety of my Kindergarten students.

Impact on Student Learning

I have created the "Classroom Webpage" assignment to allow parents and students easier access to our classroom. The 'Classroom Calendar' was provided for students to see special events, school breaks, and due dates for homework assignments that are happening within the classroom. The 'Homework Page' allows parents to see their child's homework assignments that are due for each week, and also helpful websites available for extra needed help. I created the "Photo Gallery" page to show parents pictures of what's happening within our classrom, and special areas. I wanted parents to see how their students are doing and get the visual experience, even if they are unable to visit our classroom. The "Media in our Lives" page is directed towards how Media affects the lives of our students, and how technology can be a good thing depending on the use. This page has a lot of graphs and statistics from my students' answers. The "Student, Parent, and Teacher" Pages are annotated websites for their use specifically for extra help, reinforcing ideas taught in the classroom, games, or just for fun.

Alignment

This assignment met the following NETS-T Technology Standards:

Standard II B: Teachers plan and design effective learning envirnoments and experiences supported by technolgy. Teachers will apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environment and experiences.

This artifact shows that I researched Media Literacy through observing, asking questions, and recording data from my Kindergarteners. I consulted several Journal articles about the effects of watching too much television, and learned that researchers have found that watching too much television lowers test scores, and increases a child's affects of developing ADHD. I learned more about technology by creating a webpage for my future classroom, and noticing how easy it is to keep up.

Standard II-C: Teachers plan and design effective learning envirnoments and experiences supported by technolgy. Teachers will identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.

This artifact shows that I located and evaluated webpages by creating one of my own. I learned how to make a web page through the use of Taskstream, and linked my webpage to my Professional Portofolio.

Standard II- E: Teachers plan and design effective learning envirnoments and experiences supported by technolgy. Teachers will plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment.

This artifact shows that I plan to manage student learning through the use of a homework page if the student is absent. The student and their parents can take responsibility for the missed assignments by looking up what their homework is for the day, and/or sending me an email.

Standard V-A: Teachers use techonology to enhance professional practice. Teachers will use technology resources to engage in outgoing professional development and lifelong learning.

This artifact shows that I used technology to learn and develop professionally by continuing to subscribe to Taskstream, and using my classroom webpage within my classroom.

Standard V-B: Teachers use techonology to enhance professional practice. Teachers will continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning.

This artifact shows that I reflected on the use of techonology in schools by taking a survey of my Kindergarteners on their healthy and unhealthy uses of Television. I provided graphs and statistics based on their answers, and provided parents with useful websites and articles that help deter from too much television use. I also provided a healthy list of several activities for indoors and outdoors for children to do other than watch television.

Standard VI-A: Teachers understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12 Schools and apply these principles in practice. Teachers model and teach legal and ethical practice related to techonology use.

This artifact shows that I am thinking about copyright issues by providing every annotated website link for each image, article, or website address obtained for use and giving all rights to those companies. This artifact shows that I am thinking about child protection laws because I received permission from the parents and the school on which children I could photograph. I have incorporated a Permission Slip for myself for future use, when I am in my own classroom, to be able to photograph my own students. Moravian Falls had their own permission forms. Also, this artifact shows that my "Classroom Webpage" is indeed password protected, so only those who have my password may have use on the webpage.

Standard VI-C: Teachers understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12 Schools and apply these principles in practice. Teachers will identify and use techonlogy resources that affirm diversity.

This artifact shows that I will use technology resources to affirm diversity because I included both English and Spanish Photography permisssion slips within my Classroom Webpage.
