Peer Mentor/Marketing Coordinator (LUC Experiential Learning)

Peer Mentor/Marketing Coordinator

Center for Experiential Learning

Loyola University Chicago

August 2012 - April 2013

Description: "The Center for Experiential Learning seeks to serve students, faculty, staff and community partners of Loyola University Chicago as a resource for experiential learning opportunities and partnerships. We offer information, resources and support for the development of academic internship opportunities, service-learning courses and undergraduate research experiences. In serving the community, we align our work with the Jesuit, Catholic mission and vision of the University, seeking 'to expand knowledge in the service of humanity," and broaden learning through extraordinary experiences and critical reflection on those experiences.'"

Working as a Peer Mentor, I assisted students during walk in hours to utilize various resources to help them locate jobs, internships, undergraduate research opportunities, service-learning courses, and other volunteer positions in our community. Through this job I learned how to connect to my fellow peers while also providing customer service. There are five large programs this department covers and I was responsible for understanding the details of each one respectivley.

Along with being a Peer Mentor, I was also in charge of a majority of the marketing for the CEL. As a student, my main responsibility was to assist in informing other students of this new department and how it can be utilized throughout their four years at Loyola and beyond. Some activities included setting up promotional tables, assembling marketing materials, and updating social media outlets.

Reflection: This was my first job as a freshman in college and it was difficult in the beginning to become familiar with not only this office but with the overall college experience. However, working at the CEL gave me a strong sense of responsibility and time mangement. It allowed me to interact with other students of all ages and background daily and has shown me what an impact student services can have on individuals.
