Class Objectives

-To help students develop proficiency in conceptual understanding,

computational and procedural skill, and problem-solving ability.

-They will discover  the important role mathematics plays in their

 everyday lives.

-Develop and build upon existing skills and their components.

Weekly Assignments

Math and Science will be taught  five days a week.  Emphasis will be placed on "understanding" how to solve problems, answering questions, vocabulary and the process of writing them correctly.  Some work will be corrected during class time.  This reinforces seeing the process, the answer, responsibility, and immediate feedback.

Homework

Homework will be assigned approximately four days a week and will be due the next class period.  Unless stated completed homework assignments will be due at the beginning at the next day's class.  Except in the case of excused absence, homework not completed on time will receive 0% grade (20% of the grade  for Math and 30% for Science).

►May redo any Math homework assignment that is 69% or below within the quarter.  I will average the two scores together and then give you the higher grade.  This will help to practice your skills.

In Class Work

Students are expected to complete in classwork "during class time",(if it is not completed they will need to finish for homework) and experiments, (20% of science grade).

Tests

A "Test Alert" will be sent home 2-3 days before each chapter test.  It is to be returned with a parent signature by the day of the Test  in which the student will receive two bonus points for their score. (60% of the grade for Math and 50% for Science).

Quizzes

  • There will be some "pop" or even announced quizzes. (20% of grade).
  • Pop qizzes will occur on occasion-sometimes weekly.
  • BE READY!!!

6th Grade Announcements

In 6th grade we will be able to have our Math/Science Project Class that is once a week. This is where will be able to get some extra practice on our skills as well as to branch out into other areas of math and science. Think about some areas you would like to work on.

Student Expectations

It is the student's responsibility, when absent, to see the teacher for make-up work.  A student who misses a test/quiz due to an unexcused absence should expect to make it up the day he/she returns to school.

All math assignments are done in PENCIL.

Pop quizzes will occur on occasion---sometimes weekly.  BE READY!!!

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS:

  • Come to class ready to learn.
  • All work is expected to be the student’s best effort.
  • All written work is to be done in dark blue or black ink.
  • Any drawing or creative work is to be labeled in ink and neatly colored.
