Cultural Diversity in Education, has been a favorite class of mine at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. This course has strengthened my awareness of cultural diversity and the work I have performed has complimented the subjects our class has discussed. We have discussed multiple ways teachers can incorporate culture into their classrooms, such as displaying posters of various nationalities and encouraging group discussions. I also researched information about Spanish-speaking students and have found the best ways to accommodate them in mainstream classes. Among the best two ways, the utmost effective way is immersion programs. In immersion programs, teachers instruct students half of the time in Spanish and the rest in English. However; Arizona schools do not have immersion programs because no Spanish is allowed to be spoken in schools. Also integrated throughout the course, guest speakers came and spoke about different ethnicities around the world. My favorite speaker was Mrs. Camacho, who came from Mexico, and received her degree in teaching. I enjoyed her speech because she re-emphasized my research topic, bilingual education, and her personal experiences about her childhood helped me realize that teachers need to show compassion towards their students, but they also need to take a plan of action and help those students that are struggling so those students can beat the odds. This course has helped me see that diversity can strengthen the classroom and teachers can benefit by having differences presented in their classrooms.</i>
