Try to Catch Brainy

Grade Level: 3

Teacher Preparation:

On the blackboard, write:

  • The Title of the game
  • The Group Detective Names
  • A 3 x 8 (sections 1, 2, and 3) and 1 x 5 and 1 x 2 (section 4) Minute Time Line, and the seconds, minutes, hours, info ect...(Ex: 1 minute=60 seconds, 1 hour=60 minutes, 1 day=24 hours, and 1 week=7 days)

Delegate group leaders but stress that ALL children must help answer the clues.

Objectives:

  • To show ability to work in groups and be responsible to their group leader
  • Display knowledge of seconds in a minute
  • Display knowledge of minutes in an hour
  • Display knowledge of hours in a day
  • Display knowledge of "am and pm" in relation to hours of the day-display knowledge of days in a week

Game Plan

Brainy is a Master Thief and your job (the class) as detective and police groups, is to try and catch him as he commits a robbery and tries to get away.

There will be 6 "Police" Groups:

  1. Keystone Cops
  2. Wacky Police
  3. Sunrise Detectives
  4. Spot the Clue Gang
  5. Adelaide Sleuths
  6. Smart Thinkers

You will have 30 minutes to do this. Working in groups you need to answer the 5 questions in each section before 8 minutes have passed. Each answer that is correct will give your team 5 points. HAND OUT ONE SECTION AT A TIME!!!

You must work quietly but you are allowed to talk softly about the questions and to try and help each other in your group.
