On numerous occasions throughout my tenure with Ardmore City Schools, I have been awarded grants for innovative, enriching materials and tools to enhance my teaching and my students’ learning. The latest receipt was for $3,400 for a set of Reading Pens for Jefferson Elementary. This was a very successful program. It put portable, hand-held scanners in the hands of children with limited reading skills. These scanners were used to read orally difficult words or phrases for the students. It helped decrease the amount of time a student would spend off-task, or out of their seat asking for assistance with an unfamiliar word
