Originality Determination

Return to Queue

  • When work is sent to Originality for review, and no concerns are found, the submission is returned to the top of the content queue and is evaluated normally.

Referral to the WGU Writing Center

  • If the percentage match is too high, but the paper gives credit to the sources, we consider it a training issue rather than a conduct issue. These types of violations will not escalate. The student's work is zeroed out in Taskstream, and an email referral to the WGU Writing Center is sent. At this time, a member from the Originality Support Team will reach out to the student to provide additional support and resources. It is highly recommended students schedule an appointment with the WGU Writing Center and/or an Originality Support Team member, in order to learn more about the concern and to ensure future work does not contain the same issue(s).

Warning - Notice of Academic Authenticity Warning

  • If the percentage match is too high, and/or the paper does not give credit to the sources, we consider it a conduct issue. These types of violations will escalate. On a first offense, the student's work is zeroed out in Taskstream, and an email notice of warning is sent. At this timea member from the Originality Support Team will reach out to the student to provide additional support and resources. It is highly recommended students schedule an appointment with an Originality Support Team member, in order to learn more about the concern and to ensure future work does not contain the same issue(s). It is also highly recommended that the resources noted in the email are utilized prior to revising and resubmitting.

Academic Authenticity Investigation - Academic Authenticity Investigation Notice

  • If the percentage match is too high, and/or the paper does not give credit to the sources, we consider it a conduct issue. These types of violations will escalate. On a second or higher offense, the student's work is held in Taskstream, and an email notice of academic authenticity investigation is sent. The work is not released until a full investigation of the student's work is complete and the Student Conduct Board has made their determination (if applicable).  This investigation can take 7-10 business days to complete.
