Brining the Rain to Kapiti Plain

Rationale

Context:  This lesson plan was written in collaboration with first grade teacher while I was working as a personal assistant for one of the special needs students in her class.  Some of the ideas were also taken from a musical production I performed in during a music education class I took at ASU.

Impact:  This lesson was used to help reinforce what students where learning about African plains.  Students also studied the culture and way of life of Africans and the importance of music in their life style.  Students also benefited from being able to perform multiple reads of a text they were studying in class.  Students will enjoy doing the performance for friends and parents, which will help build self esteem.

Alignment:

  • NCDPI Standard 6, Indicator 1:  I have met this standard by providing evidence of a basic understanding of the vocabularies, materials, techniques and thinking processed of each art discipline, including art, music, theatre and dance.
  • NDPI Standard 6, Indicator 2:  This standard has been met with the study of exemplary works of art and music from a variety of cultures.
