Protecting Self and Others

Rationale

Context:  While taking a health education class at Appalachian State University, I created this unit plan that is designed to meet the North Carolina Standard Course of Study criteria.

Impact:   I would use this unit plan to teach students about the various ways in which you can help protect your self and help protect others around you.  Some of the topics cover include bicycle and helmet safety, performing the Heimlich maneuver and becoming aware of various drugs and their effects of the body.

Alignment:

  • NCDPI Standard 5, Indicator 1:  I have met this standard by providing a unit plan that teaches the foundations of good health in a way that allows students to understand the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
  • NCDPI Standard 13:  This standard has been met by providing a lesson where students can practice and develop the skills required to live a more healthy lifestyle.
