PowerPoint "A Bug's Life"

Rationale

Context:  For this artifact I collaborated with a group of four other students to create a PowerPoint related to A Bug’s Life, Disney movie.  The PowerPoint is targeted at a kindergarten level.  The other students and I searched the web for pictures, sounds and other sources for our presentation.  We then collected ideas for lesson plans and other classroom activities.  After collecting information, we worked together to organize it in a systematic format.  For this artifact, I have printed the slides in a “handout” format.

Impact:  This PowerPoint presentation can be use in a kindergarten class to focus on a number of subjects.  Students study maps for geography, story telling through pictures for English, non-standard units of measurement for math and planting a seed for science.  This presentation will incorporate team work and communication skills as well.  I might also teach PowerPoint to my students as a tool for them to present information to their classmates.

Alignment

  • NETS-T II-E because I am using technology (the PowerPoint program) to teach my students about science, mathematics, language arts, and geography.
  • NETS-T V-C because PowerPoint allows me to assess my students in a variety of ways. I can use this presentation to pose questions and promote critical thinking skills through a number of different subjects, including geography and language arts.
  • NETS-T V-B because my group and I received a grading rubric after our presentation which we read and reflected on the strengths and weaknesses of our presentation.
