SS Lesson

Rationale

Context:  This lesson plan was developed during the Fall semester, 2005 at Appalachian State University.  The lesson was created to be used during an internship at Green Valley Elementary school in second graders.  This lesson was apart of a unit plan that incorporated a service learning aspect on responsibility and being a responsible citizen.

Impact:  This lesson would be used in a classroom setting to help students gain a more concrete idea of some examples of responsibility found in the home, at school and in their community.  This lesson would make for a great review of responsibility or serve as a fun way to wrap up the study of responsibility.  Students would benefit from this lesson in that it will help them be aware of the variety of ways that one person can be responsible, as well as outline all the responsibilities that the students already have.

Alignment:

  • NCDPI Standard 7, Indicator 3:  I have met this competency by accessing students' prior knowledge on the subject matter and relating new material to their already existing schemas, existing subject knowledge.
  • NCDPI Standard 7, Indicator 4:  I have met this competency by providing evidence of my lesson introducing new words and concepts that are well defined and understood, within the content area, by students.
  • NCDPI Standard 4, Indicator 11:  I have proven my competency of knowledge on responsibility and what it means to be a responsible citizen in the home, school and community by providing multiple, well-rounded examples for students, as well as non-examples that could be discussed and decided upon on how to improve them.
