Spreedsheets with Charts and Letter

Rationale

Context:  Using Microsoft Excel, a spreadsheet program, I first created a spreadsheet that I can use in my future classroom.  Through the class FDN3100 we viewed examples of spreadsheets that were set up in a grade book format.  I then personally constructed an example of a grade book and attendance record for students in a second grade classroom.  After entering grades for spelling tests, projects and math homework, I found the average of this data by using Microsoft Excel formulas.  Next, I graphed the project grades and project averages as well as the spelling test scores and average.  I printed these out using Microsoft Word.  I then inserted a graph into a letter written to the principal allowing her to review the project grades and average of my students.

Impact:  I would use this Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to record a number of different things in my classroom. The use of a spreadsheet would allow me to easily record, average and graph grades and attendance records.   Through the use of a spreadsheet, I will be able to keep tract of students’ progress throughout the school year and compare their performance to that of their peers.  In additions, I will be able to provide this information accurately and fluently to parents, administrators and other faculty members.

Alignment:

  • NETS-T IVB  I have made two charts that represented the data in my spreadsheet.  I then communicated this data to a principal in a letter using Microsoft Word.
