Instructional Setting:
Standard classroom. 20-25 students. A whiteboard will be at the front of the classroom as well as a projector to show computer presentations.

Lesson Goal(s):
Students will learn about the use of the atomic bomb, the end of the war, and Germany’s last attempt to keep the fight alive.
Lesson Objective(s):
Given a prompt, students will be able to describe the US island hopping strategy with 80% accuracy.
Given a list of vocabulary terms, students will be able to define the terms with 80% accuracy.

Sequence of Instructional Procedures/Activities/Events (provide description and indicate approximate time for each):
1. Identification of Student Prerequisite Knowledge and/or Skills:
Students will have learned in the previous lesson about the lead up to the invasion of mainland Europe.
2. New Knowledge and/or Skills To Be Taught:
Students will learn about the invasion of Europe, Germany’s last attempt to hold onto Europe, the dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan, and the surrender of both Japan and Germany.
3. Modeling: I Do
I will lecture on the Allied strategy for the invasion of Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, and the dropping of the Atomic Bomb.
4. Guided Practice: We Do
We will discuss the moral issues with the atomic bomb as well as the statement that Eisenhower was to “shake hands with Stalin as far east as you can” and what that statement.
5. Independent Student Practice: You Do
Students will begin work on assigned homework.
6. Culminating or Closing Procedure/Activity/Event:
I will ask students if they have any remaining questions or thoughts and preview the next lesson.
