Instructional Setting:
Standard classroom. 20-25 students. A whiteboard will be at the front of the classroom as well as a projector to show computer presentations.

Indiana State Standard USH.9.3 Identify multiple causes of historical actions and analyze cause/effect relationships.
Lesson Goal(s):
Students will learn about the African campaign in World War II as well as Allied invasion of Russia, and the battle at Midway Island.
Lesson Objective(s):
Students will define vocabulary terms with 90% accuracy via assigned homework.
Students will describe why the German army failed at the battle of Stalingrad with 70% accuracy through assigned homework.
Students will describe why the battle at Midway Island was a turning point in the Pacific theater with 70% accuracy via end of chapter test.

1. Identification of Student Prerequisite Knowledge and/or Skills:
Students will have learned about the early stages of WWII in a previous lesson.
2. New Knowledge and/or Skills To Be Taught:
Students will learn about the Axis and Allied goals for WWII. They will learn about the Africa campaign as well as the invasion of Italy, the Battle of Midway, and the German invasion of Russia.
3. Modeling: I Do (30 minutes)
I will lecture on the Africa campaign, Hitler turning against the Soviet Union, and the decisive battle of Midway Island.
4. Guided Practice: We Do (15 minutes)
We will have class discussions on important topics in the chapter as we reach them in the lesson. including the significance of the battle of Midway Island.
5. Independent Student Practice: You Do (10 minutes)
Students will begin work on their homework assignment.
6. Culminating or Closing Procedure/Activity/Event: (5 minutes)
I will ask if students have any questions about the day’s lesson and preview what will be covered next class.
