What is your summer pursuit? Why did you choose this? How did you decide what to pursue?
My summer pursuit is interpreting songs for fun. As many of you already know I am an interpreting student so I am required to interpret and practice ASL EVERY SINGLE WEEK. You know how they say don't major in your hobbies because then it will suck the fun out of it. That is how I feel. Getting down to the nitty gritty of a language can be very fun but at times it can be very daunting because that means you are aware of the mistakes you are making and you are being graded on them. I chose this topic because I want to fall in love with ASL again. I want to play around with signs and idioms. ASL and English are entirely different languages so that means that ASL is not just simply English with Signs. ASL has a completely different grammar syntax and it explain concepts completely differently. The fun thing about ASL is that just like English everyone has their own "signing style" meaning you might lean towards signing things in a different way. You may use more classifiers or you might focus on express and mouth morphemes. Something I hope to play around with and be creative with. That is an over all goal as well. I want to fall in love with ASL and be creative with the language I hope to use throughout my entire career. I want to practice being able to express things in different ways. I do have some experience because two summers ago I took an ASL literature class and for one assignment we had to interpret a song. I choose the pokemon theme song.
Here is the link to the canvas video of me interpreting the Pokemon Theme Song:
