As a scientist and science teacher experimental inquiry is very important to me. However, experimentation, without gaining the right knowledge to ask good questions, will be futile. As much as I enjoy experimental inquiry, I actually enjoy lecturing, questioning and discussing with large groups of students. However, sometimes I might be going to fast, or someone is too shy to ask a question, someone could be absent, or just having an off day and not be able to fully engage themselves in the material. This year, I will be implementing a "flipped format" for learning in which students will watch lectures that I have made for homework and in class they will build on this knowledge for class discussions, labs, and problem solving. While there will certainly be days that we might not follow this format, I am hoping that this learning environment will be more student centered and productive therefore leading to deeper understanding and engagement.
