Feb. 6-OL

Checkmark (Sm.) February 6, 2007– ONLINE
1. Read Chapter 8  (School Law & Ethics) in Sadker (pp. 259-294).

2. As you read through Chapter 8,  there are a series of scenarios in the section entitled
“What is your Rights Quotient?” (pages 261- 286). Record your responses for each situation BEFORE you read the textbook information about the situation, and score yourself with the criteria listed in your text on p. 283.

When you have completed/scored the activity, please post to the Discussion Board on BlackBoard “School Law Response” and post your response to the assignment “What is Your Rights Quotient?”. Report your label (such as “legal eagle”, “lawyer-in-training”, etc.) on the discussion board.

Write a 100-word response discussing something new you learned from this activity and why it is important. Your actual score on the activity does not count towards your grade. It is primarily a learning activity to raise your awareness of teacher/student rights and responsibilities. This is due prior to the beginning of class on Feb. 13.

3. Complete the four-question survey on the Sadker site in Ch. 8 entitled “What Can a Teacher be Fired For?” and submit the responses to me as instructor. (Don't submit this through BlackBoard--just use the Sadker site directly).

Download and read handout. Come prepared to discuss and participate in class activities for Chapter 8.
