Indicators 3, 4

Context: I planned, designed and taught a health lesson on families during my Health Education in the Elementary School class at Appalachian State Univeristy.  The lesson was taught to a group of my peers during my Spring 2005 semester.

Impact:  As a teacher, I will plan creative and engaging health lessons for my students, building on prior knowledge and teaching in a creative, age-appropriate manner.  I will collaborate with veteran teachers, research ideas from the internet and written text and use feedback from my students to improve my lessons.

Alignment: I have met the following NCDPI standards:

Standard 14 -

  • Indicator 3 because problems inside families can be controversial or uncomfortable, and this lesson explores appropriate ways for children to solve familial problems that won't make them feel embarrassed or unprotected.
  • Indicator 4 because throughout the planning and teaching of this lesson plan, my number one goal was to promote and venerate the values of diverse family roles, increasing tolerance and acceptance of all family structures and situations.
